I took some pictures yesterday of a container of fruit in its original plastic packaging and plated in various ways. I am going to make a poll and ask which one people would choose to eat. I'll have three polls to distinguish relative importance of variables. One poll will be the original product against the fruit plated on a white plate, one original against colored plate, and one white plate against colored plate. From that, I should be able to separate format from purely superficial difference.

I interviewed a friend who is in culinary school and got some nice information from her. Most of what she told me is just what I was trying to find. Now I have descriptions and opinions from someone currently absorbed in the world of food. She was able to give me up-to-date information on what's going on in plating and what is being taught by master chefs.

I've been trying to find specific information but that hasn't been easy. I know that I need to find something that psychologically links sight/visual perception to food choice, but I haven't been able to find it yet. What I have found strongly suggests such a link, but doesn't cite any specific scientific link. I have behavioral pattern evidence, but I'd like to have something more science-based since I'm going to try to support an inherently-based rather than conditionally-based connection.

Hello to whomever may be reading this. This is my research blog for my IN151 project. At this time, I'm not sure what angle I'm going to take, but I want to do something involving food. I'm thinking plating/presentation of product, but I don't know yet how much material is out there that addresses those areas. I've done a little poking around and I haven't found a much, but maybe there's a good source that I just haven't found yet.
